The following preface was designed to answer the question: Q. "How did you (LLB, the writer) discover the Structure of Space!?" A1. Broadly speaking, the Structure of Space was discovered during a geological and mathematical analysis of measured stratigraphic sections. A2. More specifically, my stratigraphic studies were completed in the Keweenaw Peninsula, Michigan, USA, where the Keweenawan terrain has been explored for copper by diamond drilling methods for about 120 years. For those unfamiliar with the term, Keweenawan refers to the volcanic and continental redbed sedimentary rocks of the Lake Superior (alias "Gitchee Gumee") region. This Supergroup of rocks were deposited approximately 1.05 BILLION years ago. As noted in The Urantia Book (TUB), p. 670, rocks of Keweenawan age are best exposed in the Lake Superior region. The following story begins soon after completion of my PhD degree at Michigan Technological University (MTU), Houghton Michigan. At that time, the writer was employed as a Research Geologist at the Institute of Mineral Research at MTU.
Here is the story about my discovery of the Structure of Space. In the summer of 1975, the writer completed field measurements of stratigraphic sections in the uppermost portion of the Jacobsville Sandstone located in three deep ravines (box canyons) in the Keweenaw Peninsula, MI. These redbed strata consist of mudstones, sandstones, and debris-flow conglomerates. When these data were reduced, the author found that the bed thickness values formed an odd numbered arithmatic progression: 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11. Computer analysis using an IBM 360, affectionately known as 'old brass belly', revealed *correlation coefficients* in the 0.85 to 0.89 range, indicating a 3-sigma fit, or better! In other words, my initial analysis was confirmed. Furthermore, this was a major discovery, because a thorough search of the literature and consultations with two stratigraphers indicated that no one had ever reported or published anything resembling such stratigraphic regularity. The writer later determined that lava flows subjacent to these measured sedimentary sections, and farther up-section (overlying and thus younger) formed an even numbered arithmatic progression: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, etc. This requires that these interstratified volcanic and sedimentary beds formed a "depositional couple" which conforms to a whole numbered quantum series! In other words, these volcanics and sediments represent "opposite ends of the same stick", i.e., exhibit a mutual interdependence, like the opposing poles of a magnetic dipole. After that discovery, I began reviewing and analyzing both public and proprietary diamond drill core logs in earnest.
Paraphrasing the BEI Preface, p. i, the initial phase of my studies involved the successful mathematical modeling of the tectono-depositional system controlling the formation of the Portage Lake Lava Group (PLLG); the five kilometer thick volcanic group exposed in the Keweenaw Peninsula. This model, designated the Stratigraphic Geometric Matrix (SGM), was based upon an analysis of over 40 kilometers of diamond drill core section from the Michigan native copper district and employs simple high school level algebra and geometry, exclusively. During this investigation, the writer amassed a stratigraphic sample population consisting of 102 member-order sections with a grand average member thickness of 164.3 meters, totalling 16,758. meters. In addition, a *type section* for the entire PLLG was defined. This section straddles Portage Lake, near the center of the peninsula, and is 25 kilometers along strike by 5 kilometers PLLG thickness, i.e., this type section represents a 125 square kilometer slice thru the Earth's crust.
Here is thE six-fold stratigraphic hierarchy defined by these Keweenawan strata in the Lake Superior region:

...where cyclothems, for example, coal beds - worldwide, represent CYCLES of beds, members are cycles of cyclothems, formations are cycles of members, the PLLG is a cycle of six formations, and all Keweenawan rocks in the Lake Superior region comprise the Keweenawan Supergroup. In short, strata deposited on the Earth's surface are controlled by six orders of "cycles within cycles".
The following was stated by the writer on page iii of the BEI Preface in a "...short synopsis of GRAVITY and the Structure of SPACE":
"Gravity, as we perceive it, is the Normal Space (N-space) manifestation of the structural attributes of Reciprocal Space (R-space). N-space and R-space exist in mutual interdependence, like the opposite poles of a magnetic dipole. N-space is predominantly DYNAMIC, whereas, R-space is predominantly STATIC. R-space is the realm of static time. Unlike N-space, where we exist, R-space is massless. Unlike N-space, R-space has additional harmonics or "overtones" that can be generically conceptualized as hyperspace. R-space has six orders and each is comprised, in turn, of six suborders or dimensions. These orders were mathematically defined on the basis of their PLLG manifestations: this lava group consists of the lowermost five of the six stratigraphic orders defining the Keweenawan terrain in the Lake Superior region. More specifically, the six hierarchal stratigraphic orders of Keweenawan rocks represent attainment of equilibrium of the six hierarchal orders of R-space. The SGM is a mathematical structure based upon a six-level power series expansion of the bed thickness." ...and the 3-4-5 depo-triangle described in the document entitled: "Gravity and BEI". The basic structure of 36-dimensional R-space is presented in Part 3. Part 3 also includes a) the structure of the First ORDER of Space using modified Urantia Book (UB) nomenclature, b) nomenclature of beings, by level, living in the First ORDER of Space from the UB, and c) the *common structure* of the uppermost 5 ORDERS of R-space, utilizing musical concepts which characterize RESONATING systems.
